We all know Halloween is my favorite. If you didn’t know, now you do.
With that being said, Vampires and Witches are two of my favorite Halloween monsters while ghosts not far behind. Today’s Halloween cupcake is dedicated to my beloved Vampires and their bats.
What you’ll need to make Vampire Bat Cupcakes:
- Cupcakes (Recipes below)
- Frosting (recipe below)
- Cherry Pie Filling or Red Decorating Gel
- Red, White and Black Sprinkles
- Gummy Bats
Decorating notes:
The gummy bats are from Wilton but you could also use Bat cupcake toppers if you wanted to.
I found the Halloween sprinkles at Walmart but you can use any sprinkle you have or leave the sprinkles out all together.
Lets Start with the Cupcakes:
CUPCAKES:

Or you can use store bought cupcakes. Did you know that you can almost always buy un-frosted cupcakes from your local grocery store bakery? I use to work at a bakery inside of Food Lion and we sold un-frosted cupcakes all the time.
Decorating Vampire Bat Cupcakes:
Start by smearing a thin layer of frosting onto each cupcake,
Dip cupcakes into sprinkles.
I did this dipping method with my Poison Apple Cupcakes for #HalloweenTreatsWeek last year and I loved how it looked so that’s what I decided to go with for these bat cupcakes to give them a little extra decoration.
Fill a piping bag that’s been fitted with a large round tip with frosting.
Pipe layer/ swirls on to cupcakes.
Top each cupcake with a gummy bat.
Use a tooth pick, chopstick or a skewer to poke two vampire teeth holes into the side of the frosting. Add a bit of cherry pie filling or red decorating gel to mimic blood.
I used cherry pie filling for the blood on these because I was already working with it in the kitchen that day but you could also use use a tube of decorating gel.
