It’s time for Back to School to happen all over the country and while Jax isn’t old enough for school yet, I have a ton of friends that are sending their little ones off to school! So today I’m sharing these Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies on the blog and showing you how to make them!

I’ve been a huge fan of Wilton for the past 11 or so years. As I’ve mentioned on the blog before, I fell in love with Wilton back when I got married and started taking cake classes when we moved to Camp Lejeune, NC.

I was a newlywed, that just moved to a new city and I knew no one in my new city. So to pass the time while Thomas was at work on base, I signed up for Wilton cake classes.

I spent my days, learning how to drive around the city to get to my classes and smearing buttercream icing onto cupcakes while trying to turn them into something that looked somewhat like the creation that the instructor had made.

Poor Thomas ate more cake and cupcakes those few months than he probably had in his entire life because I was constantly bringing home my creations and practicing my new skills at home.

Those Wilton cake classes made me fall in LOVE with Wilton products and with dessert making. So you can imagine the smile on my face when I opened my e-mail one day and found an e-mail from Wilton! Wilton reached out to me and asked me to work with them on a Back to School recipe and I was more than happy to say YES!

Wilton was kind enough to send me some fun treats in the mail for me to use for my Back to School recipe too!

What Back to School Recipe are we making?

We’re making Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies!! These brownies are so simple to make and we’re starting off by using this fun Brownie Bar pan from Wilton that they sent over!

For these brownies, I made it simple for all of the parents of little ones that are headed back to school right now and made these brownies with a fudgy brownie box mix but you could also make them using my recipe for Peanut Butter Brownies or this recipe for the best brownies ever!

Also, to add in a little treat for Back to School, I added Snickers candy bars to the center of these little brownies. (of course you can leave them out if you want or change up the candy bar!)

I baked them up in the Wilton Brownie Bar pan, which bakes perfect individual brownies and creates the perfect brownie crust on all 4 sides of each and every brownie! I know a lot of y’all are going to love that.

So just make your brownie batter according to the box directions or recipe. Pour the brownie batter into the molds, but only fill them up about 1/2 way. Cut a Snickers fun size candy bar in half and press half of the candy bar down into the middle of each brownie batter square.

Please note that when I tried out this pan, 1 box of brownie mix filled up 8 of the brownie cavities, so you will need two boxes for the whole tray. (and may have a little batter left over to bake more)

If you use want to use one box of brownie mix you’ll get about 8 brownies BUT don’t leave the other cavities empty! Fill the empty cavities with about 2 tablespoons of water each to keep the ban from warping while it’s baking.

Then you’re going to bake these brownies for about 17-20 minutes at 350F or until they’re done. Take them out of the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes before trying to get them out of the pan.

Once they’re out of the pan, let them cool completely before icing them.

When it’s time to frost them, it’s time to turn them into little brownie chalkboards!

You’re going to need chocolate icing and black food coloring for the chalkboard part of these brownies.

I decided to fill a piping bag with the black icing and pipe a border before icing the brownie because I wanted crisp lines around my chalkboard. After that I spread black icing over the center of the brownie until smooth. However, you can skip the border piping if you want and just spread the black icing over the top of the brownie.

Before someone asks, YES you can use vanilla icing BUT you’re going to have to use a TON of black food coloring to get to black and I think black food coloring is bitter if you use too much. If you start with chocolate icing you only need a little bit of black food coloring to turn chocolate into black.

Now it’s time to decorate!

I used this Wilton White Decorating Icing to write ABC onto these brownies. You can pipe with the tip that’s included on the icing pouch but you can also use regular piping tips with a decorating coupler! I wanted the letters to be a bit smaller so I screwed a smaller piping tip onto the icing pouch to make it easier to write out ABC onto each one.

Once you’ve got your letters or whatever you want to write on the chalkboard on there, it’s time to add the apple.

Place a sugar apple onto the chalkboard and you’re done!

Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies

Here are two options for the apples for these Chalkboard Brownies

Option #1 – Make your own.

You can make your own candy apple decorations with a little cookie icing and some chocolate sprinkles.

Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies

On foil or parchment paper:

  • Create a red circle with red cookie icing that’s the around the size of a dime or a penny.
  • Add a chocolate jimmies sprinkle for the stem.
  • Use green cookie icing to create a tiny leaf.

If you make your own apple decorations using the cookie icing and parchment paper, you’re going to want to make them a few days in advance so they have time to sit and harden all the way before adding them to your brownies. After they dry you can carefully use a spatula or a butter knife to move them from the parchment paper to the brownie.

You can also just pipe your icing apples right onto the brownie (you only need to wait for them to hard a few hours if you do it this way because you don’t have to move them after making them.)

Here are two examples of the cookie icing apple decorations.

Example 1 – piping it onto the brownie

Example 2- piping onto parchment paper and transferring to the brownie (note that some might crack this way because they are fragile)

The second apple option is to use these cute Apple Icing Decorations from Wilton.

Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies

I mean I love my homemade little apple decorations but I’ve always had a soft spot for these cute Wilton icing decorations and I think these apples are just icing decoration perfection!

Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies

Just pop one of these little apple decorations into the corner of your Chalkboard Brownie and serve them up!

Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies

Aren’t they just precious! I’m in love with these Back to School Brownies, y’all!

Easy Snickers Chalkboard Brownies

I hope you’ll whip up a batch of these Chalkboard Brownies for the teacher or kiddo in your life that’s getting ready to head back to school!

Also, I hope this is the best school year yet!!
