Homemade Dr. Pepper Floats are one of my mom’s favorite ice cream treats! I just knew that these would be the perfect treat to make for her Birthday! This is how I make super easy Homemade Dr. Pepper Ice Cream Floats!
I’m home from Nashville, y’all!!! Oh my gosh, Meghan, Brittany and I had a blast but good lord I’m exhausted. We were gone for a few days and we literally were going non stop while we were there.
I can’t wait to tell you all about the trip and I’m sure that I’m going to write a bit about it on the blog but today we’re moving onto something else!
Today is my Mom’s Birthday!! What better way to celebrate my mom than with one of her favorite ice cream treats…..Dr. Pepper Floats!
My mom has been ordering Dr. Pepper floats from the ice cream shop for as long as I can remember. I barely remember her ordering anything else; these Ice Cream soda floats are pretty much at the top of her list when it comes to ice cream.
Right now as I’m writing about these Homemade Dr. Pepper Floats and thinking about her, I can just see her with one of those huge styrofoam cups from Bubbas, sipping away on a Dr. Pepper Float and talking about how much she loves it. (Bubba’s is a local ice cream shop that we’ve been going to since we were babies!)
That’s why today is all about Dr. Pepper Floats…..well, Homemade Dr. Pepper Floats! Since it’s my mom’s birthday, I thought this would be the perfect day to show you how to make one of the easiest ice cream desserts out there.
So, what are you going to need for these ice cream floats?
- Vanilla Ice Cream (if it’s semi-soft it will mix better)
- Dr. Pepper
Well, that’s easy enough, right?
Now you can use any type of vanilla ice cream that you want, really, just use your favorite brand.
As for the soda…..off brands may work for you, you know like an off brand of Dr. Pepper BUT I’ve never made ice cream floats with them so I can’ promise that they’ll taste right. I’m going to leave that chance up to you.
OK, so let’s do this.
Fill up your glass (or mason jar) with 2-3 scoops of vanilla ice cream.
Next you’re going to need your soda. I can normally get 2 Dr. Pepper Floats from one of these little 12 oz bottles of Dr. Pepper.
Go ahead and pour the Dr. Pepper right on top of the vanilla ice cream.
It’s going to fizz and start to rise up so don’t go like super crazy with the Dr. Pepper or you’re going to have a mess. But just pour it until the foam has gone to the top a bit.
That’s it! Stick a straw it and and drink up!
I work with my mom during the day at our office so I get to see her all day today AND since I know she’ll read my blog today, I thought I would take up a little spot on my post today to wish her a Happy Birthday and to share one of her birthday presents with her!
Happy Birthday Mom!! I love you!
Mom,
I know you’re at the office reading this, so let me know when you’re ready for your Dr. Pepper Float! I brought everything to the office that we need to make them today! <3 Happy Birthday!
Love ,
Angie

Happy Birthday to your mom! How cute that you work together and that you brought every thing to work to make these floats for her. One of my mom’s dear friends drinks only Dr. Pepper and I think she needs to surprise them with a Dr. Pepper float the next time they hang out. 🙂

Love that you made these with Dr. Pepper. I’m not a huge fan of root beer! Saving this recipe for a rainy day!

Food memories are the BEST!! These are SO fun! Ice Cream floats are one of my favorite…just-off-a-hot-beach-treat! I go for 1 scoop Strawberry, 1 scoop vanila and plain vanilla soda or Sprite if they don’t have that. And THAT right there is tied strait back to my childhood and my dad! So funny how we cherish memories, tastes, smells etc from that time in our life 🙂

For some reason when I read “homemade”, I expected some part of it to be homemade! Ha! Oops!
Angie says
Sorry, not making homemade Dr. Pepper here at the house. 🙂 But it is a homemade float. Ingredients turned into something else instead of being bought at a store or ice cream shop = homemade. It wasn’t Dr. Pepper Floats from scratch. It’s just telling people how to make Dr. Pepper Floats at home. Homemade – Made at home

I think it’s great try it with a big giant glass and a big Dr. Pepper and big giant ice cream and put them together and yum.

I live in Waco and these floats are incredible! These floats are even better with Blue Bell ice cream, which is what the DP museum uses. Glad you had a great time.
