Baked potatoes are a perfect side dish and I love that they can be filled with all types of toppings! They can be served plain for picky eaters and topped with classic baked potato toppings to accompany a meal or things like chicken and steak to become the main entrée!
I’ve showed you how to cook a baked potato in the microwave in a previous blog post, but today is all about cooking up the perfect baked potato using your air fryer!

- Russet Potatoes
- Olive Oil
- Seasoning Salt (or regular table salt)
- Any Baked Potato toppings that you love
How to cook Baked Potatoes in an air fryer:
- Poke Potato
Wash potatoes and pat dry.
Use a fork to prick hole all around the potatoes. - Add Olive Oil
Rub the potatoes all over with oil of choice. I normally use olive oil because that is what I have on my counter but you can also use avocado oil.
- Add Seasoning
Season all sides of the potatoes with salt.
I love seasoned potato skin! I use a generic salt seasoning for mine but you can also use regular table salt. - Time to Air Fry
Place potatoes into basket of air fryer. Don’t over crowed the air fryer basket. I can only fit 2 potatoes into mine (although I MIGHT could squeeze 3 in there. You don’t want to block all of the vents.
- Cook Time
Air Fry at 400F for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, check to see if potatoes are fork tender**, if not add 5 more minutes and repeat test. - Cut Open and fluff!
Once potatoes are tender, carefully remove from air fryer with tongs.
Place onto a flat surface and carefully slice open.
Place palms if hands on each of potato and press towards center to open. - Top and Enjoy!
Fluff potato insides with fork and top with favorite baked potato toppings.

This is going to depend on how big your air fryer basket is on your air fryer. My basket will only hold 2-3 depending on size. Don’t over crowed the basket or they air won’t be able to flow correctly to cook the potatoes.
I tend to always use russet potatoes for baking. I grew up having those as baked potatoes and I think they’re soft enough and large enough to hold toppings.

* if you don't have seasoning salt you can just use regular salt
** check to see if the potato is done cooking but sticking it with a fork or a toothpick. If the potato is soft and easy to go through, then it is ready. If not, it needs to be cooked a little longer.
