Carnival season is coming to an end and Mardi Gras is tomorrow.  I wish I was in New Orleans right now, y’all! I really do!

Did you see the Mardi Gras Beignets that I posted yesterday? They would be perfect with this Mardi Gras Purple Hot Chocolate!

I may not live in New Orleans or be able to go there as much as I’d like but it still holds a special place in my heart. So while I may be miles away, I’ve still got my Mardi Gras Wreath on my door, I’m eating homemade Beignets, drinking purple hot chocolate with Mardi Gras sprinkles and longing for a homemade King Cake!

But I’m here in Virginia and no where near New Orleans so I’ll just have to be happy with what I’ve got. Right now that means that I’m happy with this lovely mug of Mardi Gras Purple Hot Chocolate that I’m sipping on.

Oh and guess what else it has, Colored Sugar to match the Mardi Gras theme. Yes, I know purple hot chocolate is awesome on its own but come on! Who doesn’t love colored sprinkles…errr I mean colored sugar!

This purple hot chocolate is just a homemade white chocolate that I added purple coloring too and the colored sugar couldn’t be easier to make.

You just color regular sugar with a little food coloring, let it dry and then sprinkle it onto your whipped cream and hot coco!

I made purple, green and yellow sugar since I was going for a Mardi Gras theme here but you could make any color! This DIY colored sugar is not only perfect for hot chocolate but it’s also great for cake, cupcakes and cookies!
