Our air fryer gets used almost every other day and I love adding new foods to my list of things to cook in the air fryer. I’ve never been a fan of cooking bacon because I use to cook it on the stove top which meant I was always getting burnt or burning the dang bacon.
I started cooking bacon in the oven a few years ago and it was my go to method for a long time. However, the air fryer has taken over and now our bacon comes to life in our air fryer!
What you’ll need to make Air Fryer Bacon:
- Bacon
- Air Fryer
- Paper Towel and Tongs (Optional)
What to do to fry bacon in air fryer:
Lay slices of bacon into the basket of the air fryer. Lay whole pieces or cut pieces in half.
Set temperature to 390F and air fry bacon for 8-10 minutes. Around 9-ish minutes check the bacon. If a crisper bacon is desired, turn air fryer on and air fry for 2-3 more minutes.
Remove bacon from air fryer with tongs and lay on a paper towel lined sheet to remove any excess grease.
I know that some people like it crispy and some don’t, do the time part of the recipe may just be something that you have to play around with to find your perfect crisp level.
I really like this method instead of the oven version because it takes less time and because the bacon isn’t hanging out in a bath of grease while it’s cooking. The grease just falls to the bottom through the air fryer basket grates and collects there instead of marinating on each strip.
There is less mess to clean up because you basically just toss the fryer basket and bucket into the dishwasher or give it a quick hand wash. Plus there isn’t hot, burn your skin off, grease flying all over the place while you’re in the kitchen. Not only do I not want to burn myself but I have a 2 year old that loves to be in the kitchen with mommy, so I’m always making sure that he can safely help me make our meals. Random splats of hot grease are not toddler friendly.
What Air Fryer should I use?
You can use any air fryer as long as the temperature goes up high enough. My husband, Thomas, bought me a Ninja Foodi for Christmas so that’s been my air fryer of choice for the past few months but I’ve tried in in my smaller generic air fryer and that works too. Of course you can just eat this alone or with breakfast but if you’re looking for some recipe ideas to use it with, take a look at some of these.
- Bacon Mushroom Carbonara
- Bacon and Cheese Loaded Hashbrown Waffles
- Maple Bacon and Ham Baked Bean Chili
- Chicken Bacon Alfredo Lasagna
- Bacon Ranch Macaroni and Cheese
- Bacon Cheese Dip
- Bacon Beer Macaroni and Cheese
This Bacon Topped Three Cheese Casserole aka Funeral Potatoes or this Cheesy Potato Soup would also be great recipes to make with it.
